A newly joined trainee engineer asks his boss "what is the meaning of appraisal?"

Boss: "Do you know the meaning of resignation? "

Trainee: "Yes I do"

Boss: "So let me make you understand what a appraisal is by comparing it with resignation"

Appraisal : In appraisal meeting they will speak only about your weakness, errors and failures.
Resignation : In resignation meeting they will speak only about your strengths, past achievements and success.

Appraisal : In appraisal you may need to cry and beg for even 10% hike.
Resignation : In resignation you can easily demand (or get even without asking) more than 50-60% hike.

Appraisal : During appraisal, they will deny promotion saying you didn't meet the expectation, you don't have leadership qualities, and you had several drawbacks in our objective/goal.
Resignation : During resignation, they will say you are the core member of team; you are the vision of the company how can you go, you have to take the project in shoulder and lead your juniors to success.

Appraisal : There is 90% chance for not getting any significant incentives after appraisal.
Resignation : There is 90% chance of getting immediate hike after you put the resignation.


Trainee: "Yes boss enough, now I understood my future. For an appraisal I will have to resign .... !!!"

Check your Provident Fund details online

Few months back i joined a new company. Previously i was working for an organisation for nearly 3+ years. Generally when you leave and join another company, Provident fund amount can be transferred from the old company to the new company or withdraw it. In case of withdrawl, it will take a minimum period of 3 months.

Once the previous employer submit the PF form to the regional PF office, you can track the status of your application, online. I searched over the web and found few details. Thought it will be useful to others.

To find the Status of the PF amount visit : http://www.epfochennai.tn.nic.in/tnepf/loginnew.aspx.

Enter the necessary details like locality of the office, establishment code and employee number, to know the status of your PF account.

For example if your PF account number is TN/MS/12345/12

TN/MS denotes Regional PF Commissioner's office of Chennai, Tamilnadu

12345 is the code number/account Number allocated to your employer by the EPF organisation.
12 is your serial number (Employee no).

All of them put topgether becomes your account Number.

Since last September, my office was at Egmore and my salary will be creditted in ICICI bank. Recently i have joined a new company and they opened a new HDFC bank account. I really do not know where is HDFC bank / ATM in Tamabaram Sanatorium, eventhough i'm there for the past 5 years. I browsed through http://yellowpages.sulekha.com and made a search for HDFC bank. The search functionlity is so good, it keeps throwing names as you type and saw a ATM which was close to my locality.

Since most of the people in IT industry will have salary account with one bank or the other, i'm sure this link will be useful.
